Work Schedule:

8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday

Rate of Pay:

This position is a grade 213 with a minimum of $51,675. Salary offer will be commensurate with the education/experience, in alignment with the College’s compensation philosophy, and the current CBA, if applicable.

Job Summary:

An employee in this classification performs work of moderate difficulty as a member of the team responsible for analyzing, conceptualizing, developing and maintaining the college’s web presence. Work requires an understanding of accessibility standards and guidelines to ensure web-based digital properties meet industry best practices with the ability to perform quality assurance testing that results in recommendations to create inclusive web accessibility. Work also involves assisting of internal users. Direction is received from the assigned supervisor.

Essential Duties:

Digital accessibility leadership and training

• Conduct live training with faculty, staff and administrators on how to make student materials accessible
• Create training materials and educate others on accessibility requirements and best practices
• Review third-party content and provide
• Provide training to staff to ensure accessibility is incorporated in delivery lifecycle
• Provides regularly reporting on content issues and fixes escalating to developers/designers when necessary
• Craft and roll out scalable processes to support compliance with established standards
• Create and maintain workflow guidelines for all aspects of UAT and accessibility for all content

Quality Assurance Testing

• Develop, drive, socialize, and continuously improve the UAT and accessibility strategy
• Complete accessibility testing
• Works with the director to create a checklist for regular testing that uses defined standards, methods, and procedures for inspecting, testing, and evaluating usability with assistive technologies
• Log accessibility defects as appropriate and follow up to ensure they are addressed
• Collaborate with designers to identify, reproduce, prioritize, and document defects

Web Development

• Ensures college site meet compliance with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and ISO;
• Builds reusable code that meets web security standards;
• Interfaces with vendors to troubleshoot issues for the intranet and public websites;
• Conducts regular site maintenance for internal stakeholders through the help desk;
• Optimizes website code for search engine rank;
• Collaborates with Senior Web Developer and UX/UI Designer on solutions to product defects;

Content management

• Works with IT on active directory to maintain appropriate user permissions;
• Manages user rights according to needs, skills, and training level;
• Manages addition or deletion of users; performs administration functions as requested, such as usage reports.
• Supports content contributors and moderators;
• Provides assistance, direction, and support to end-users regarding errors, problems, or questions.
• Conducts monthly CMS training sessions and provides one-on-one assistance, as needed.

• Addresses tickets from the website governance software
• Acts as the principal architect of the PDF and form library to ensure they are accessible to all.
• Ensures that all content on elgin.edu, accessECC and eNet comply with accessibility standards, including video content, PDFs, Optimize photos for the web, college publications
• Captioning and audio descriptions to all video content
• Readability and plain language
• Responsible for labeling and preventing of errors
• Maintains required training, licensure and/or certification
• Maintains confidentiality of privileged information and adheres to applicable privacy laws
• Demonstrates sensitivity, understanding and respect of diverse populations within the workplace.
• Maintains an understanding of the work of colleagues to effectively provide backup and/or support for co-workers during times when the division is short-staffed or experiencing an increased volume of work.
• Adheres to department guidelines for attendance and punctuality
• Ability to work a flexible schedule which includes days/evenings/weekends as needed by the department
