About the job

YouTube is a large video consumption platform with more users coming online for the very first time every year. Our rapidly growing user base provides unique challenges and new opportunities. The YouTube Community team’s mission is to grow YouTube by connecting people around video, providing communication, sharing, lightweight content features. Every day, YouTube viewers use community features, including channel subscriptions, comments, notifications, posts, and stories.

As the Engineering Director, you will report to the VP of Engineering for YouTube Community. You will be responsible for the end-to-end execution of a team based in Los Angeles that is developing notifications, channel subscriptions, and social distribution. Along with Product Managers, UX, and other cross-functional peers, you will set the strategic direction for how we build the best community for YouTube viewers. You and your team will find ways to leverage the strengths of Google/YouTube (e.g., an extensive infrastructure, ads expertise, advanced AI, passionate community of viewers), as well as our talented team, to build the most engaging experiences for our users.

At YouTube, we believe that everyone deserves to have a voice, and that the world is a better place when we listen, share, and build community through our stories. We work together to give everyone the power to share their story, explore what they love, and connect with one another in the process. Working at the intersection of cutting-edge technology and boundless creativity, we move at the speed of culture with a shared goal to show people the world. We explore new ideas, solve real problems, and have fun — and we do it all together.
