How will you make an impact?

The Senior Software Engineer will be responsible for the design, deployment, and implementation of cloud-based Java applications. This person has experience in full software development life cycles and is also responsible for a demanding and rewarding variety of duties related to the development, enhancement, and delivery of Thermo Fisher Scientific products and services.

What will you do?

The ideal candidate will be someone with 5+ year with successful Java experience. Our mission is to build a large, distributed web-based platform that scales and adapts to a variety of scientific, medical, and laboratory needs. Thermo Fisher Scientific is seeking experienced and talented Software Engineers to become a part of our mission.
  • Has exposure to each phase of a project; through requirements, design, testing, implementation, and delivery
  • Implementing, testing and operating advanced software security techniques in compliance with technical reference architecture
  • Performing on-going security testing and code review to improve software security
  • Provide insight and solutions at each phase of the full software development life cycle
  • Able to diagnose, describe, design and implement solutions to complex problems
  • Design, develop, and deploy high volume, cloud-based applications to support customer needs
  • Execute full lifecycle software development, contributing in all phases
  • Develop features across multiple subsystems within our applications, including collaboration in requirements definition, prototyping, design, coding, testing and deployment
  • Design, build, and maintain efficient, well designed, and testable code
  • Identify system bugs and bottlenecks, and resolve using effective solutions
  • Champion continuous integration and deployment on a modern development stack
  • To uphold Agile team organization using Kanban, Scrum in additional to a suite of Atlassian tools (Jira, Confluence, Crucible, Bitbucket, Artifactory)
  • Provide recommendations to management concerning issues of programmer productivity and software development management.
  • Become an expert at exposing and understanding nearly all aspects of Core architecture
How will you get there?
  • Successful software development experience working in a corporate environment
  • 5+ years of strong Java development experience
  • Strong working knowledge of AWS, SQL, Angular, and microservice architecture
  • Hands on experience in designing commercial, cloud-based applications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or Engineering
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Well organized individual with an entrepreneurial spirit
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Experience with biotech or pharmaceutical industry
  • Experience with LIMS
  • Experience with distributed, cloud-based architectures
  • Continuous integration and deployment (Jenkins, Gradle, SonarQube)
  • Experience with: Requirements engineering, UX, Mockups, Test Driven Development, Tomcat, Git, JSP, Database design, REST web services
  • Mesos, Docker, AMQP, service containerization, distributed architectures
