Under the direction of the DGIT Infrastructure Manager and as a member of the UCLA Health Digital Technology (DGIT) team, the Linux Systems Engineer is responsible for effective and efficient delivery and support of IT infrastructure services to the Health Sciences schools. The ideal candidate will have advanced Linux skills and expertise with supporting systems, servers, applications and services in an large, complex enterprise environment. Key responsibilities: Applies advanced concepts to deliver enterprise class Linux systems administration including the build, deployment and configuration of systems, databases, networking, firewalls, pipeline automation and related technologies. Responsible for design, testing, implementation, operational support, maintenance and performance tuning of servers in Test, Staging and Production environments. Proposes and implements system enhancements and updates to improve performance and reliability. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Deliver operational support and troubleshooting for client-hosted systems and applications. Executes security controls to safeguard data, privacy and IT resources. Develops, adopts, and implements maintenance, patch management, system standards, monitoring, backups, and practices. This position is expected to follow UCLA Health IT ITIL process governing request, incident, change, and configuration management. Expertise configuring/supporting Puppet, GitHub, Atlassian Cloud, and/or LogicMonitor is a plus. This individual will have a diversified background of technical infrastructure experience, demonstrated server systems administration acumen, plus a superior, service-oriented approach. This role will participate in providing 24x7 on-call support for business critical systems. The full salary range for this position is $95,900.00 - $222,100.00 annually. The target range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is 95,900.00 - 159,000.00 annually.

Qualifications

* Demonstrated expert-level knowledge and experience supporting, maintaining and troubleshooting Linux operating systems and LAMP environments * Solid scripting skills in one of the following: shell scripts, Perl, Ruby, Python, Terraform * Experience developing and deploying a structured DevOps environment using standard frameworks (Puppet, CloudFormation, vRealize automation). * Experience in application development, requirement gathering, UI design, deployment, code refine with programming languages such as C/C++, Java, Perl, Python, Ruby, bash * Understanding of networking, load balancing principles and approaches to scaling out of systems. * Experience designing, developing, testing, and deploying applications/ systems using proven or emerging technologies, in a variety of technologies and environments. * Experience with continuous deployment / continuous delivery using tools such as git, Maven, Bamboo, etc. * Strong background in RHEL/CentOS/Ubuntu systems administration * Demonstrated ability to respond to customer needs and expectations in a supportive and professional manner, with attention to promptness and a focus on solutions to provide excellent customer service. * Demonstrated ability to prioritize and organize projects, determine and meet deadlines, and proactively communicate with others in a clear and concise manner. * Demonstrated ability to initiate and maintain cooperative relationships with coworkers, managers, supervisors, customers/clients, and members of the public. * Knowledge of standard security practices and procedures for server and network configurations. * Demonstrated ability to create technical documentation that is clearly written, well organized, well structured, and accurate. * Knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes and containers * Experience with cloud technologies including AWS and Azure
