Under the direction of the Director of Development Operations, the Assistant Director of Alumni Relations is responsible for directing the School's effort to develop and nurture mutually supportive relationships between UCLA Samueli and its alumni. The Assistant Director will identify and cultivate new prospects for referral to the annual giving and major gifts teams as well as collaborate with these teams to plan development-driven alumni events. This individual will assist in the continued growth and development of the Engineering Alumni Association (EAA) to include social, development, admissions, recruitment and career networking activities for the benefit of UCLA and UCLA Samueli students. The Assistant Director will seek to ensure that (1) the interests of UCLA Samueli and its alumni are clearly and positively articulated and (2) UCLA Samueli offers meaningful opportunities for active alumni participation, which strengthen the bonds between alumni and the School to advance the reputation and overall goals and priorities of the School. This position requires a high level of judgment in developing a pipeline program that will ultimately result in financial support of the School from annual and major donors.

Required/Preferred
1. Minimum of two years of demonstrated experience in a fundraising environment, preferably with an emphasis on alumni engagement and/or prior professional experience in a related field such as sales, marketing or business development.

2. Working knowledge of the principles and practices of fundraising in a major research university or institution of equivalent complexity.

3. Understanding of mass solicitation and giving strategies and techniques with the ability to conceptualize and implement successful methods of outreach and engagement for prospect identification and cultivation.

4. Ability to organize, direct, motivate and evaluate the efforts of alumni and volunteers who support development goals and programs.

5. Strong research skills for finding and retrieving information combined with strong analytical skills for understanding and interpreting information.

6. Knowledge of database management and manipulation sufficient to run, analyze and summarize computer generated reports; retrieve and analyze data to isolate specific market segments and recommend strategies that achieve stated objectives.

7. Ability to work effectively as part of a team with strong interpersonal skills to establish and maintain collaborative relationships with a wide variety of internal and external constituents.

8. Excellent verbal communication skills to collect and convey information over the phone and in-person with accuracy, diplomacy and tact; ability to persuasively express the mission of the University and the fundraising goals of the Samueli School.

9. Excellent written communication skills with the ability to use correct spelling, punctuation, grammar, and syntax in written communications and articulate the fund-raising goals of the School specifically through mass communications in print and online.

10. Detail oriented with ability to take initiative, work independently and accept responsibility; adept at setting priorities and managing workflow to fulfill objectives and meet goals accordingly to deadlines in a dynamic and ever-changing environment.

11. Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft suite of applications, as well as familiarity with other database, spreadsheet, scheduling and email applications; willingness to learn new technologies in a prompt and efficient manner.

12. Impeccable integrity and discretion in dealing with donors, alumni, students, administrators and colleagues.

13. Experience conceptualizing, planning and executing special events.

14. Ability to travel and work some evenings and weekends as needed.

15. Experience with a Blackbaud CRM system or equivalent database and the use of databases to generate reports is preferred.
