VP of Software Engineering will report to the COO and be responsible for building and leading the company’s technology strategy as it pertains to the infrastructure, architecture and code development of core product in addition to managing the technology team. The VP of Software Engineering will have a deep understanding of current systems, technology, coding development of products and will analyze the needs of the business and each department, form ideas and solutions to present to executive management, and execute initiatives to achieve corporate goals and maximize customer experience.
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
  • Manage the architecture and development of core foundational technical components of the core product (Transportation Management Software).
  • Manage the day-to-day operations to the entire software development lifecycle to ensure successful, on-‐time releases; demonstrate ownership and accountability for the team's delivery.
  • Manage resources against commitments to ensure high-quality solutions are consistently delivered to established expectations.
  • Responsible for the design, development, and implementation of new products and features while proactively and efficiently collaborating with all stakeholders. Help stakeholders decompose their projects into concrete units of work for the development team.
  • Work effectively with the product, engineers, customer success and sales leadership teams to allocate engineering resources appropriately across various projects, including balancing customer needs with longer-term product roadmap needs.
  • Maximize efficiency in a constantly evolving environment where the process is fluid and creative solutions are the norm.
  • Collaborative style and experience working with product, UX and Product Managers on complex roadmaps.
  • Track and record strategic & technical goals, (KPIs).
  • Identify and close engineering & product development gaps.
  • Build a high-performance engineering culture, including hiring top technical talent.
Skills and Requirements:
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive information technology experience directly related to software architecture/engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years of working with a SaaS application in coding and or architecture/engineering.
  • Bachelor’s degree required in Computer Science or a technical discipline. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Proven experience leading engineering teams during the evolution of the Engineering function from start-‐up to the mid lifecycle.
  • Software development experience building ASP, enterprise SaaS, cloud-based solutions, web platform supporting thousands of users and millions of online transactions per month and growing.
  • Experience in database architecture with cloud computing required with AWS suite of DevOps tools.
  • Experience in full-stack development coding, serverless and/or container hosting strategies and microservice and/or cloud-native architectures.
  • In-depth knowledge of MS SQL, NoSQL/non-relational databases, Redis, APIs, CI/CD, HTML 5, Java, and other coding languages.
  • Ability to coach and mentor developers at different levels.
  • Experience in managing onshore and offshore development teams.
  • Proven ability to establish and execute technology best practices.
  • Experience coaching Agile transformation efforts and leading Agile (preferably Scrum) development.
  • Preferred – prior leadership experience in guiding teams through cultural transformation.
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve goals in an innovative and fast-paced environment and to evolve product strategy based on research, data and industry trends.
