The Manager of Global Media Engineering is mainly responsible for providing guidance and engineering expertise to the global media engineering group. This position is mainly responsible for providing the global technology roadmap for media services. In addition to the roadmap, you will also provide the overall architecture designs of all media systems and business process management systems used for automation. You will then lead a team of global media engineers that will implement the systems and standardized business processes to be used by the media services hubs.

Your second function is to manage a global team of media engineers who will provide the 2nd tier of maintenance and support of media production systems including MAM, transcoders, non-linear edit systems, graphics tools, storage servers’ free space, QC rooms, automation tools, and machine room equipment inventory. Also required to manage SMEs on large media RFP projects.

Your third function is to work with internal and external development teams to create customized software solutions to fill any gaps left after implementation of media systems and business process automation. You must have a working knowledge of the system API’s, automation scripting languages, and SDK’s.

Your fourth function is to plan and budget for the global media engineering group according to current business needs and technology trends. You will achieve this by leading your team to stay abreast of the business priorities and capacity in each hub location.

The ideal candidate will have engineering management experience and a thorough understanding of business process management, current transcoding software, non-linear editors, metadata and its function, professional broadcast video/audio equipment and standards, networking, scripting, and system design. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of media technology and business trends and have a current membership with at least one standards committee such as SMPTE (Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers). The candidate must also possess exceptional organizational, listening, problem-solving, and communication skills.

The candidate must be able to work both independently and within a team environment.

Principle Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead a highly technical team of media engineers spread across multiple geographic regions and ability to travel internationally when needed.

  • Actively participate at a senior executive level across the organization to align and coordinate engineering and other business activities.

  • Participate in the evolving and executing on the organization's media strategies including build, buy, and partner activities.

  • Demonstrate a strong video tech acumen to develop one of the most capable engineering teams in the localization and distribution business.

  • Motivate, encourage, and develop one of the most hardworking and capable engineering teams in the localization and distribution business.

  • Be able to decide and provide the overall architectural design and implementation plans of current and new systems when needed for expansion and new media business areas.

  • Work with Technology Organization (IT) to maintain the technical policies and procedures governing media systems and storage.

  • Work with Solution Delivery & Support team to plan and deliver custom software solutions.

  • Create and track budgets and plans for global media engineering systems, vocational training, and professional memberships.

  • Will be required to submit regular status updates and reports to his/her CIO/CTO via project services.

Must be able to demonstrate:

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.

  • Senior level technical knowledge and experience in localization and distribution of video, audio, subtitle, and metadata assets as well as the post-production environment and technology including new cloud media technologies.

  • A high degree of computer skills on platforms such as Macintosh, Linux, and Windows.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and Office 365.

  • Ability to communicate with CIO/CTO and operations stakeholders to understand and manage shifting business priorities.

  • Ability to lead a highly technical and global team of media engineers.

  • A high level of professionalism, in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to listen to team ideas and inspire a team to grow and constantly improve themselves and media processes and technology.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum of 10 years work experience in the digital media and/or broadcast media space 4 years of engineering management.

  • Knowledgeable in programming languages such as, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, VBScript, Batch and Bash script, PowerShell, Ruby on Rails, Groovy Script.

  • Understanding of the video ecosystem including metadata and packaging standards, streaming standards, broadcast standards, and localization.

  • Understanding of the use of multiple CDN to drive down latency in remote operations.

  • Strong ability to identify, hire and grow talent.

  • BA/BS in Film and Video, Digital Media, Communications, or Computer Science preferred.

  • Experience with MAM (Dalet Galaxy), Aspera Orchestrator, Telestream Vantage, Amberfin preferred.
