With the School's 75th Anniversary approaching in 2020, now is the time to be involved, engaged and committed to celebrating past achievements and paving the way for future endeavors.
Reporting directly to the Senior Director, Development for the UCLA Samueli School of Engineering, the Director of Development is responsible for developing, coordinating and executing long- and short-term strategies to secure major gifts from individuals, alumni and other entities in support of the school's mission and strategic plan. Both independently, and in coordination with other members of the staff, the Director of Development will manage a portfolio of prospects and donors and will strategically identify, cultivate, solicit and steward major gifts to the School. This will include regular travel to regions with large populations of UCLA Samuel alumni and parents and will be conducted both independently and as part of staffing the Dean and School leadership on cultivation and solicitation visits. The Director will have knowledge of gift vehicles including planned, capital, blended and major/principal gifts to secure philanthropic support for the School. This individual will serve as a liaison between External Affairs and one or more student and/or academic departments within the school and meet with faculty in priority areas to gain knowledge of research, expertise and funding needs. The Director will have demonstrated experience with volunteer boards and/or advisory committees to participate in the recruitment and development of the Dean's Executive Boards. This individual will work closely and collaboratively with a wide variety of internal and external constituents across the School, University and beyond to increase engagement and overall philanthropic support for the UCLA Samueli School.

Qualifications for Position
1. Minimum of three to five years of progressive responsibility and experience as a professional development officer and/or prior professional experience in a related field such as sales, marketing or business development.
2. Working knowledge of the principles and practices of fundraising in a university setting with a strong understanding of the goals, functions and services of a research university or institution of equivalent complexity.
3. Proven skills in developing sophisticated strategies in planning, implementing and administering complex major gift solicitations or other solicitations of a similar nature, level and complexity.
4. Strong documented record of gifts solicited and closed in the special and major gifts range and/or solicitations of a similar nature, level and complexity.
5. Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to work harmoniously with volunteers, academic leaders, faculty, and other development staff toward the accomplishment of fundraising goals.
6. Demonstrated skill working with a dean and/or senior faculty of a professional school or similar organization.
7. Strong ability to recruit, orient, train, organize, motivate and evaluate staff and volunteers who support development goals and programs.
8. Ability to establish priorities, manage multiple tasks and multi-phase projects simultaneously from inception to completion and complete work under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment with minimum supervision.
9. Ability to communicate persuasively, both orally and in writing, about UCLA's fundraising goals and the specific priorities of the UCLA Samueli School of Engineering; equal ability to listen perceptively and convey sensitivity and awareness.
10. Excellent written and communication skills, with the ability to produce business correspondence, solicitation materials, appropriate letters of acknowledgement, proposals to individuals, corporations and foundations, and reports.
11. Impeccable integrity and discretion in dealing with donors, alumni, students, administrators and colleagues as well as confidential information.
12. Experience conceptualizing, planning and implementing special events.
13. Knowledge of Microsoft Suite of applications is required as is familiarity with other applications, programs and databases as needed with a willingness to learn new technologies.
14. Ability to travel and work some weekends and/or evenings as needed.
15. Bachelor's degree is preferred.
