As the Vice President of Research & Development and Engineering for Panavision, you will be expected to effectively lead and manage the various engineering disciplines including; Optical, Mechanical, Electronic, and Firmware Engineering to successfully design, develop and manufacture innovative products and solutions for the Entertainment Industry. You will be required to manage the administration responsibilities of budgeting, planning, resource management and vendor relations, ensuring projects stay within the budgeted expectations and delivery timescales. Provide leadership and oversight to the various projects across the engineering disciplines, ensuring proper resources are utilized and aligned for prioritized programs. You will work with Innovation, Sales, Marketing, Operations and Financial teams on the product development from inception through manufacturing as product is released into the market place.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a key member of the Panavision Leadership team that sets and executes the company’s strategic direction.

  • Develop and deploy strategic planning methodologies and program management tools for the direction and alignment of product development activities across disciplines.

  • Assure the organization achieves objectives and project completion within budget and delivery time frame required.

  • Direct and lead organization to ensure activities to plan and execute development of new products, modify existing designs, improve production techniques, manufacturability, and developed test procedures are executed and delivered.

  • Set, manage and review the forecasted operating costs of the research &development and engineering organization in accordance with overall company performance and objectives.

  • Lead multiple projects, set clear objectives, and allocate and manage resources effectively and efficiently.

  • Develop, plan and deploy resources effectively balancing between new product development and sustaining requirements and adhering to regulatory compliance and product certifications.

  • Ensure regular industry & customer contact to develop roadmap and identify industry requirements.

  • Lead discussions with senior leadership team to determine engineering feasibility, cost effectiveness, and customer demand for new and existing products.

  • Ensure organization administers effective processes, tools and databases for project status tracking, project time tracking, profitability reporting, and other KPIs and administrative reporting functions.

  • Initiate and facilitate communication sessions and meetings with all company departments as needed to discuss and agree project requirements and schedules.

  • Manage complex day to day people management issues and deal with any performance issues in a legally compliant and professional manner

Skills/Experience Required:

  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures and organize work areas for efficiency and safety.

  • Provide status reports to management as required.

  • Effective in change management, dealing with shifting priorities and establishing KPIs and performance metrics.

  • Provide strategic direction, vision, and leadership to direct reports including coaching, mentoring and developing.

  • Conduct yearly performance evaluation in cooperation with functional leaders.

  • Confer with superiors, subordinates and other personnel to review achievements and discuss required changes in goals or objectives.


  • 10-15 plus years’ experience in leading a product development team in an industrial/commercial organization, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • 7-10 plus years of senior supervisory experience to include directing highly qualified technical staff (Optical, Mechanical, Electrical, and Firmware engineers).

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year College or university, required.

  • Master of Science Degree (MS), Preferred.

  • Proven track record in delivering new product development projects on schedule and within budget.

  • Proven experience in developing and managing project schedules, budgets, measuring, reporting and achieving engineering metrics and managing department and project expenses, resource allocation and administration.

  • Experience outsourcing and managing product development to contractors and solution suppliers in the global market place.

  • Extensive experience in relation to dealing with certification requirements and management of change with certification bodies.

The employee may also be required to lift product or equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

Prompt and regular attendance is required, employees are expected to begin work at the start of their scheduled shift and to complete their assigned work shift according to the responsibilities of their position. This position works standard business hours, but may require long hours and some weekend work.


Some out-of-state/country and overnight travel may be expected.
