Description of Duties:

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated candidate who thrives in a fast-paced environment to join our team as a User Interface / User Experience Designer. The person will assume a role in design and usability for eGovernment interactions and services. This includes conceptualizing the screen flow of eGovernment Web applications; designing and building interfaces for Web and mobile applications in HTML, CSS and JavaScript; and developing and maintaining both the underlying framework and designs for the Indiana.gov website, as well as government agency websites.

The UI/UX Designer possesses the ability to implement solutions to a wide array of technical problems and communicate other implementation details to application development team when necessary.

This position will be responsible for the implementation of new leading edge Web applications and services as they move from concept to launch. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to work with a team of highly versatile and talented project managers, developers and designers.

The User Interface Designer is responsible for implementing and maximizing usability throughout Web applications and CT.gov Web pages. The UI/UX Designer conceptualizes the workflow of Web applications and designs and constructs user interfaces for applications and portal pages. This position requires a mixture of skills including coding, analytical, and visual. It is approximately 50% coding, 20% interaction design, 20% visual design, and 10% usability testing.

Responsibilities:

• Work with the project manager and clients to determine how users interact with an application and create HTML prototypes to demonstrate how the application should look and flow.
• Proactively identify opportunities to improve the site usability and the overall quality of the site design, organization, and structure
• Provide guidance to ensure effective translation of user interface designs during technical implementation.
• Implement latest CSS3 techniques
• Design intuitive interfaces based on principles of good design and usability.
• Construct application pages with current Web languages and techniques, and ensure that the pages are standards compliant, universally accessible, and cross-browser compatible.
• Usability research and analysis

Requirements:

• 3-5 years of experience in web design and/or front end coding
• Expert in HTML, CSS, Javascript, current Web languages.
• Experience using Javascript and jQuery
• Experience with front end pre-processing tools such as SASS, Compass a plus.
• An online portfolio showcasing your best work
• Experience prototyping websites and applications using a wireframing tool such as Balsamiq
• Proficient in responsive design and development for universal mobile access.
• Proficient in current frameworks such as Bootstrap, Foundation with and an understanding of their impact on usability, accessibility, and cross-browser compatibility.
• Strong conceptual and problem solving skills; critical thinking
• Experience in usability testing, analysis or HCI
• Proficient in 508 / WCAG 2 standards compliance
• Experience with, Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, and a strong grasp of design principles
• Prefer candidates with four-year degree in digital/new media or similar
