Your Role and Responsibilities Our mission in CIO is to create a productive hybrid cloud environment for IBMers. Our strategy is to lead with design and user experience, to engineer the systems that run the business, and to innovate to transform the business.
As a Site Reliability Engineer for the CIO hybrid cloud Monitoring & Event Management team, you will maintain, support and help to enhance the multi-technology monitoring and automated remediation systems which support all IBM’s internal applications and systems. You’ll have particular responsibility for some of IBMs most secure environments, working with colleagues across the US, Brazil and Poland.
You will use tools such as Jira, ServiceNow, Ansible and your skills in Linux. You will receive extensive training and have the opportunity to be certified in solutions such as Splunk, Dynatrace and Instana, as well as other IBM tools such as ITM.
A typical day may include:
- Answering internal customer questions on the use of our monitoring tools
- Patching, updating and maintaining secure servers and monitoring components
- Fixing issues and managing escalations to other teams and vendors
- Learning new skills, and enhancing existing ones using IBM’s extensive learning platform –all employees are required to complete at least 40 hours of training each year, and are supported in earning badges, certifications and qualifications
- Attending team standups or cross-functional interactions
- Using IBM’s Slack channels to interact with other colleagues across the company on business, technical and social topics
This role is located mostly remote with occasional office attendance in the Research Triangle Park, NC office, so candidates should be located within a reasonable commuting distance. Required Technical and Professional Expertise
- 3+ years of IT industry experience
- Technical background including Linux (any flavor, but RHEL preferred!)
- Hands on experience with at least one of Slack, Jira, Github, ServiceNow
- Direct experience of customer support (internal or external)
- Experience of virtualization and/or container platforms
Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
- Experience with monitoring systems, SNMP, REST APIs
- Understanding of cloud platforms, such as OpenShift, AWS, vCloud Director etc
- Cloud networking foundations, firewalls, routing, DNS
- Cloud security foundations
