Position Overview:

We are currently seeking a Senior Staff Systems Engineer to join a multi-disciplinary engineering team, in a rapid development environment to architect, design, integrate, deploy, and support complex robotic systems across a wide range of industrial and commercial platforms. The Senior Staff SE will be the technical leadership of multiple robotic system development efforts internally and with hardware OEMs. Tasks include system & subsystem requirements development, system design, modeling as necessary, performing software/firmware/hardware integration, verification, and validation. This person will be the ultimate technical representative for large company-sweeping programs to Executive management.

Essential Job Functions

• Collaborate with Product Management, Program Management, Hardware design, software design, manufacturing and Business development teams to build state-of-the-art Robotic systems for the commerical and industrial sector.
• Create Requirements and Specifications for hardware and software design that aim and direct the design of compute modules, robotics sensors and accessories from prototype to mass production
• Drive qualification, acceptance, and functional testing requirements for electrical and mechanical systems
• Interface with domestic and international suppliers and contract manufacturer to procure and fabricate electrical and mechanical components
• Chair and lead design reviews of Electrical PCB Assemblies, Mechanical Layouts, and Software Design
• Perform root cause analysis of escalated issues in hardware / software integration
• Develop and maintain technical risk ledgers, while managing risk reduction exercises
• Release and control engineering documentation using ECR/ECO processes
• Hire, train, and mentor top notch engineers to enhance the capabilities and increase the capacity of an existing team

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics

• Experience in requirements allocation, derivation, verification, and traceability
• Experience in Model Based System Engineering
• Familiarity with design of electronics PCBAs, module packaging, cabling, and harnesses
• Familiar working with various agency standards like IEC, UL, ETL, CE, ANSI, MIL and NEMA, etc.
• Familiar with standards-based product development and functional safety
• Experience desired dealing with various thermal, shock, vibration, emissions and ingress protection techniques and able to apply them to electronics modules and enclosure packaging
• Experience in mobile robotics or industrial automation and control systems
• Experience in system level design and architecture of electro-mechanical products
• Experience leading cross-functional engineering teams and technical integration efforts
• Familiarity with Ubuntu Linux, Python, and C++
• Strong written and verbal communication skills

• Experience with Microcontrollers from A4 Safety Rated ARM Processors to Linux capable Systems on Modules
• Understanding of modern sensing technologies such as LiDAR, ToF Cameras, and 3D Cameras
• Harnesses, Firmware Specifications, and Software Specifications
• Hold and lead technical design reviews, HARA, FMEA, reliability testing, etc.
• Understanding of how hardware interfaces, such as PCIe, SATA, GMSL2, CAN and Automotive Ethernet, work with their respective software stacks
• Understanding of software tools, such as Git, Jenkins, Jira and BigQuery
• Knowledge of storage mechanisms like SSDs, NVMes etc

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements

• BS/MS in Engineering or another technical field
• 10+ years’ experience in a variety of engineering roles
• 3+ years in a technical leadership role
• Current US work authorization

Travel

Limited domestic and international travel will be required (<10% of time)

Salary Range:

The anticipated annual base salary for candidates who will work in San Diego, California is $151,681 to $196,292. The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, type and length of experience within the industry, education, etc. Brain Corp is a multi-state employer and this salary range may not reflect positions that work in other states.
